TOP 3 PORTFOLIO
DO'S & DO NOT'S
DO#1
Use authentic sources of inspiration for your mood board. Using other current designers' work as inspiration is not original. Consider taking your own photos, or painting a picture to set the stage for a truly one of a kind presentation.
Recap: Don't copy.
DO#2
Keep in mind who your customer is. If you wouldn't wear it, who will? This seems obvious, but you'd be surprised how many designers sketch a dress you can't get into. This point was key in my Parsons Fashion School education.
Recap: Don't just design for lady G.G.
DO#3
Focus on your strengths. If draping and construction are your strength, and illustration is not, take a gorgeous photo of your latest design creation. Make it prominent in your portfolio layout. The illustration sketch can be smaller. Focus on a well drawn flat that will showcase your understanding of construction.
Recap: Don't showcase your weakness.
